As Occupational Therapy students, we desire to one day be the best OT's that we can be. We not only seek to help our clients but to fully see them and help them participate in everyday life activities that are important to the client. But how do we know what to do, or how do we back up the interventions, assessments, and activities that we are doing with our clients? Well, we as OT's must have a foundation to build our practice on that is strong and supported by other OT's that have gone and researched before us. This strong foundation is the umbrella of theory. It is the broad, and overarching set assumptions and concepts that can we used to explain and define the concepts that we use in our practice and gives us purpose and direction. Under this theory umbrella the Model of Practice and Frame of Reference. These give structure and the tools to be able to guide the therapist through the intervention, as well as specific aspects of therapy to be aware of. Without defining our actions and interventions under this umbrella, our therapy really has no guided purpose and no means to an end. How can we inspire our clients without this?
